Testimonial
When I was asked to write a testimonial about this training, the first word that popped into my head was “fun”. But at the same time it is one of the most difficult things I have done. When I started 6 years ago, I was unfit, unmotivated and had high doubts that I could defend the people that I love. I had no previous training and no clue.
With the guidance of Johan my confidence grew, but he made me realise at the same time how difficult a self defense situation can be and how quickly a social situation can change into an asocial (life or death) one. This lesson taught me one valuable thing: if you can walk away from a fight, do so. But if you can’t or the attacker doesn’t give you that option, do and use everything in your power to win. Secondly your strongest weapon is awareness - when you have to fight you already made major mistakes, but it happens.
I struggle to describe exactly what we do. It is a bit of everything. Well anything that works in a high level of resistance. We adapt any style or technique that works for realistic resistance. We keep it simple, fast and effective using many types of weapons and making the situation as difficult as we can while still having fun. We don’t care where we train, with what equipment or looking fancy, as long as we train and enjoy it.
There is NO place for ego in this type of training. People who join for the wrong reasons never last. Because in this type of training you will tap, you will get hit, stabbed, shot, no matter how long you train. Because we work very close to reality. The longer you train you just learn where to get hit and what to sacrifice to win the fight.
The training helps a person in many aspects of their lives. It gives you confidence and a healthy self esteem. It also teaches you that if a situation gets very tough, you don’t have the option to give up, you never give up, you just keep fighting.
Johan is my friend, a role model and an amazing coach. Thanks for everything.
