Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
BJJ is an integral part of our training, and we are proudly affiliated to RIO Grappling KZN - CombatCoaching.com
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a combat sport and martial art that teaches a smaller individual how to defend him / herself against a larger individual using proper technique, timing and leverage. Brazilian jiu-jitsu contains both stand-up manoeuvres and the ground-fighting techniques it is famous for.
Grappling by definition, in martial arts, is any style or mix of styles that comprises techniques that rely on grabbing and controlling the opponent using body leverage as a way of achieving the supremacy through throws and take downs, pins and submissions, as opposed to “striking” martial arts that focus on knocking out and/or hurting the opponent.
We train both striking and grappling, and to be a good Mixed Martial Artist, it is fundamental to be a good grappler as well as a striker.
In the Rio Grappling Club we train extensively Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and its variation without Gi as well as Judo and Olympic Wrestling as we believe those styles blend together very nicely and complement each other in our pursuit of excellence.
Jiu jitsu not only improves your body, it improves your mind and your quality of life. During training, people are reminded that their body is magical. They clear their minds. They create bonds with teammates that can last a lifetime.
You do not need a gi (training suit) to start your BJJ training with us. Join in, have fun and experience the training first.
